The immersive work at Amsterdam’s De Centrale Markthal will combine textile, movement, light and sound with live performances by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Elias Mazian and Joep Beving
Artist and audiovisual designer Boris Acket and creative production company Making Waves are set to bring EINDER, a large-scale immersive installation, to Amsterdam’s De Centrale Markthal for ADE’s 30th anniversary from 21 October to 1 November.
Spanning approximately 80 by 25 metres, the textile installation will be continuously reshaped by a series of fans, creating an evolving environment where movement, light and sound intersect. The work will form the setting for an exhibition and a series of live concerts, bringing together electronic music, contemporary art and classical performance.
Boris Acket said: “With EINDER, we wanted to create a work that people can experience with more than just their eyes. By bringing movement, light and sound together, the installation creates an environment in which visitors become part of the work itself. It builds on my fascination with temporary spaces where music, visuals and people merge to create a new reality. Much like a club, it creates a moment that cannot be fully predicted, a moment where everything comes together.”
The programme opens on 21 October with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony beneath the installation. Elias Mazian and his live band will follow on 22 October, while Joep Beving will perform on 29 October, presenting music from his forthcoming album Liminal.
The exhibition itself opens on 22 October with a new composition created specifically for EINDER by Caterina Barbieri, the music curator of the Venice Biennale. From the same date, the installation will also be activated at selected moments through a performance by choreographer Kiani del Valle, whose credits include choreography for Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Jan-Willem van de Ven, Managing Director of Amsterdam Dance Event, said: “For ADE's 30-year anniversary, we have been reflecting on what culture is, and I see our future not only as reflecting what's happening in the cultural landscape but also helping shape what's next. So to us, having an artist like Boris Acket, who started within club culture as a visual support act and now having become the headliner with his own standout project, not only shows his own growth, but also the growth of ADE as a platform.”
EINDER is produced by Acket and Making Waves, with production by Goonie Crew. Acket has previously worked with institutions and artists including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum, Lowlands and Fred again.. The project continues his exploration of temporary spaces where music, visuals, architecture and audiences converge.
Pre-registration for the concert series is open from 11 to 24 August, with the pre-sale beginning on 25 August. Remaining tickets will go on general sale from 27 August. Seated concert tickets start at €27, excluding service fees, via einder.world.
