The milestone release is anchored in a real Berlin wall

Berlin-based artist Eric Winkler has brought Figure Music’s 150th release into the public realm, translating the label’s milestone compilation ‘One Hundred Fifty’ into a graffiti work realised on a Berlin wall.

Marking a significant moment for Figure Music, the compilation reflects more than two decades of releases while foregrounding the visual language that has quietly underpinned the label’s identity. Rather than opting for a purely graphic solution, the project turned outward to the city itself, commissioning Berlin-based artist Eric Winkler to create an artwork that could exist first as an intervention in urban space before becoming a collectible artefact.

Label founder Len Faki situates the release within the longer arc of Figure Music’s history. “I never imagined this would happen when I started the label. It’s a proud moment for all the artists on this compilation, but also for all the outstanding and talented producers/artists we released over all those years. They all contributed to reaching this milestone today. And of course, all the fans and supporters we had in the last 22 years. Thanks a million to you all!”

The visual dimension, however, proved to be the most demanding aspect of the project. “The much harder part was creating the cover artworks and vinyl. It needed endless hours, many ideas, trials, and errors before we had a clear vision and found Berlin-based artist Eric Winkler who brought our idea to life.” The collaboration culminated in a mural sprayed at scale during the summer months, a gesture that anchors the compilation firmly within Berlin’s visual and cultural fabric.

For Len Faki, the physicality of the process remains striking. “I still can’t believe we really had such a huge graffiti sprayed this summer for the artwork! For the cover artwork, we teamed up with him who sprayed an incredible piece of art on a Berlin wall this summer.” He describes the resulting work as “wild, colorful, untamed, loud, fun, diverse — the perfect blend of what we envisioned when starting this compilation.”

That energy carries through to the finished release. As the label explains, “His spray-painted work is adorning the thick triple-pocket sleeve housing three colored records.” In doing so, ‘One Hundred Fifty’ positions itself not only as a commemorative compilation, but as a carefully considered art object, where sound, surface and the city are bound together through Winkler’s hand.

Alongside Len Faki, the artists contributing to the compilation ‘One Hundred Fifty’ include Jancen, Arthur Robert, Vinicius Honorio, A-STS, Jeroen Search & Decoder, IGLO, Glaskin, Scheermann, Obscure Shape, Roman Poncet and Arkan.
