The capsule features T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, a Maharishi-designed bomber jacket and a 12″ compilation revisiting XL's early catalogue
XL Recordings has joined forces with Sports Banger for a limited-edition capsule collection celebrating the label's formative role in shaping the UK's early rave movement. Spearheaded by XL founder Richard Russell and Sports Banger founder Jonny Banger, the collaboration revisits some of the imprint's most recognisable artwork and iconography through a range of clothing, vinyl and collectible pieces.
The collection draws directly from XL Recordings' breakthrough years in the early 1990s, reworking graphics associated with seminal releases by The Prodigy, Liquid, Jonny L and SL2 across T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts. Beyond celebrating individual records, the capsule pays tribute to the visual identity that helped define one of Britain's most influential independent labels before it expanded into the broader roster that would later include artists such as Radiohead, The xx and Adele.
At the centre of the collaboration is the XL Banger Bomber Jacket, developed alongside Maharishi. Offered in both black and hot pink, the jacket conceals a handcrafted matte black ACME Thunderer brass whistle inside one of its pockets, a subtle nod to one of rave culture's most enduring symbols.
The project also extends to music through the XL BANGER 12-inch compilation, bringing together defining tracks from the label's early catalogue. The record features Liquid's 'Sweet Harmony', SL2's 'DJs Take Control', The Prodigy's 'Out of Space' and Jonny L's 'The Ansaphone'.
To mark the launch, Sports Banger will host a one-off rave at its Tottenham headquarters on Saturday, 1 August. The event will feature DJs and guests from the extended XL Recordings and Sports Banger community, with attendees also able to purchase the collection on-site.
