Drawing from 14 works by Bach, AMAS and Frithjof-Martin Grabner explore the meeting point of Baroque composition and electronic music on their collaborative album, ‘SRDNG x LPZG’

AMAS have released ‘SRDNG x LPZG’, a new collaborative album with double bassist Frithjof-Martin Grabner that reinterprets the work of Johann Sebastian Bach through the aesthetics of minimal, dub techno and ambient music.

Consisting of German artists David Heine and Philip Hinrichsmeyer, AMAS operate at the intersection of music, visual design and conceptual storytelling. Frithjof-Martin Grabner, on the other hand, is a prominent figure in Germany's classical and jazz scenes, serving as Professor of Double Bass at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre. Best known for his work in Baroque repertoire, ‘SRDNG x LPZG’ marks his first recorded collaboration within an electronic music setting.

While the duo created their new LP alongside Frithjof-Martin Grabner, the album's artwork was designed by Philip Hinrichsmeyer, one half of AMAS, and continues the visual tradition established throughout the AMAS series. Featuring a front cover with a special 3D effect, the release further extends the project's ongoing dialogue between sound, materiality and visual form.

The cover artwork features three elongated black forms set against a stark white background. Hovering between abstraction and figuration, the shapes resemble weathered silhouettes, fragmented bodies or traces of movement, leaving their interpretation deliberately open.

Textured surfaces and raised details give the image a physical presence that becomes more apparent through the album's special 3D cover treatment. Minimal in composition yet rich in material detail, the artwork echoes the record's broader conversation between historical source material and contemporary experimentation.

The project began in Pula, Sardinia, where AMAS digitally reworked material from 14 Bach compositions and combined it with local field recordings. The resulting sketches were later developed in Leipzig through collaborative sessions with Frithjof-Martin Grabner in Leipzig.

The album is available to stream below, and the limited vinyl edition can be ordered here.
