A social media post confirmed that the venue’s final parties will take place in November

Amsterdam venue TILLATEC has announced that it will close later this year. The multidisciplinary cultural space confirmed the news via social media, revealing that its final events and farewell celebrations will take place in November.

Located within the building formerly occupied by Amsterdam institution De School, which ceased operations in 2024, TILLATEC opened its doors just a few months later. Spanning a workplace, café, restaurant, cocktail bar, community hub, gallery and a two-room event space with a capacity of 900, the venue quickly established itself as a key part of the city's cultural landscape.

The project brought renewed purpose to a former technical school dating back to 1967. With its raw architectural character and rich history, the space has hosted everything from 24-hour raves to intimate gatherings centred on community and connection.

More recently, TILLATEC partnered with FIBER Festival on a multidisciplinary programme that combined live audiovisual performances, club scenography, video installations, performance art and electronic music under one roof.

In a statement shared on Instagram, TILLATEC wrote: "When TILLATEC began, it was never about its countless walls, sound systems, or dance floors. It was about creating a place where queer people, creatives, outsiders, and allies could come together and to build a home, somewhere to be able to let your guard down.

"Over the span of this project, that dream became a reality, and the community became a family. A beautiful, chaotic, emotional experiment held together by the people you see in this film. These people have breathed life into this building, giving it a soul and one hell of a big heart.

"This November, we will celebrate our Grand Finale and close this chapter together. One last marathon. One last dance. One last chance to fill these walls, shoulder to shoulder with you all."

Line-ups for the closing events have not yet been announced, though followers can keep track of forthcoming updates via TILLATEC’s Instagram account.
