The Loft at AG Studios hosted the Ibiza DJ’s first American step into visual art

Guy Gerber, long regarded as one of Ibiza’s most recognisable DJ-producers, marked a new milestone in his parallel art practice with Separate Ways, his first U.S. exhibition, opened at The Loft at AG Studios in Tribeca on September 9.

Known for stretching the limits of electronic music, Gerber now turns that same exploratory energy toward photography. The exhibition, curated and produced by Katie Lister, presents 21 works exploring the theme of self-reflection, each subject’s face hidden behind a mirror, with several canvases marked by layers of paint and handwritten messages.

Speaking about his transition from music to art, Gerber explained his motivations candidly. “This is a playground I love. I thrive in that playground,” he told Nylon. The magazine underscored how the artist’s new practice represents not only a change of medium but also a confrontation with self-doubt and grief, themes that became central to his artistic process.

The show’s core philosophy is rooted in personal honesty. “The real art piece is me creating art,” Gerber said during the preview. “It means that [I did it] with no skills, not too much education.” That refusal to shy away from vulnerability carries through to the works themselves, which stand as testaments to limitations serving as fertile ground for creativity.

The exhibition’s opening attracted a roster of notable figures, including Sergey Brin, Richie Akiva, Antoine Verglas, and Carmen D'Alessio. Following the vernissage, Gerber returned to familiar ground: a DJ booth. He delivered an intimate set at Gospel during Nylon Membership’s NYFW kickoff event on September 11, reinforcing his enduring dual identity as both musician and emerging artist.
