The controversy began when a photographer noticed that the artwork for 'hit me where it hurts x' resembled an image they captured last year
Skrillex apologised on X after someone claimed their image had been used without permission in the artwork for his latest single.
The situation unfolded on yesterday (November 16), when X user @mourningdove77 drew attention to a striking resemblance between a photograph they captured in November 2024 and the cover art for ‘hit me where it hurts x’ — Skrillex’s recent collaboration with Dylan Brady, which samples the Caroline Polachek track of the same name. Sharing their original image alongside the released artwork, the user wrote, “This is a photo I took last year if anybody cares cause what the fuck hahahahahaha.”
Within hours, Skrillex responded publicly, explaining that he had been unaware of the source of the image before its release. “We had selected this artwork based on what my team had shared and was completely unaware that this photo was taken by you,” he wrote. He continued, “Though this single cover was outsourced, I take 100% accountability. I would love to contact you and do anything in my power to make amends and make this right. My absolute deepest apologies and regrets that this happened.”
Designer Mira Joyce, who was involved in creating the visual, also addressed the issue directly, acknowledging the oversight: “Really sorry for this, genuine mistake but i want to make this right. dmed you.”
As of now, @mourningdove77 has not publicly replied to either apology.
