The new public artwork arrives ahead of Big Beach Boutique 7, returning to Brighton from 16-19 July

Brighton street artist SNUB23 has created a large-scale mural celebrating Fatboy Slim's longstanding connection with his hometown ahead of Big Beach Boutique 7.

Painted on a wall in Brighton, the work pays tribute to one of the city's most closely associated musical figures through a bold reinterpretation of the compact cassette, an enduring symbol of analogue music culture. At its centre, the oversized cassette bears the handwritten message 'Fatboy Slim Loves Brighton', reaffirming the reciprocal relationship between the artist and the city that has shaped much of his career.

Rendered across a bright blue façade, the cassette is framed in vivid acid-green tones, while its handwritten red lettering evokes the immediacy of graffiti tagging. The inclusion of the classic yellow smiley face, an enduring emblem of UK rave culture that has become closely associated with Fatboy Slim's visual identity, further reinforces the work's connection to the artist's legacy. Rather than pursuing photorealism, SNUB23 embraces a graphic, pop-inflected visual language that draws equally from street art, rave iconography and music memorabilia.

Based in Brighton, SNUB23 has built an international practice spanning murals, stencils and graphic design, with works exhibited across Europe, Asia and the Americas. The latest commission continues the artist's engagement with the city's cultural identity, translating a landmark chapter in electronic music history into a highly accessible public artwork.

Fatboy Slim's signature event series, Big Beach Boutique, returns for its seventh edition on 16-19 July in Brighton. Explore the day-by-day lineup below.
